To many, this may look like a mess and/or safety hazard. You hear the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words" and yet our pictures alone rarely do justice. This exploration was initiated by one child asking, "What do you think is inside of a pom pom?" He then made a prediction and began attempting to cut through the center. His engagement caught the attention of peers who wanted to join. They each brought their own open-ended questions to the table (floor). This child-led project met more benchmarks then we could fit on a lesson plan. We of course saved all of the trimmings for the next project.
